We know how much you have been eagerly awaiting the answers to our recent Bingo Quiz and the time has come to place the solutions up so that you can see how well you did! We hope that you at least got some answers correct and that you learnt something about bingo history, lingo and variations in the process.
On to the answers:
  1. The earliest account of a bingo-like game was in Italy in 1530. The game itself was called “Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia.”
  2. The first British occurrence of a game similar to modern-day bingo was in 1716.
  3. In the US, bingo got its name when a winner accidentally yelled out “Bingo” when he struck it lucky. The game was called Beano before that.
  4. In Britain, bingo was known by two names: Housey-Housey and Tombola.
  5. If “54” is called out in a bingo hall, the rhyming slang is “Clean the floor.”
  6. In a Blackout bingo game, your objective would be cover up every square on your card.
  7. A jackpot that grows as people play is known as a progressive jackpot.
  8. In online bingo, BLNG stands for “Better luck next game.”
  9. When marking the 2nd and 4th columns on a bingo card, this pattern is called “Railroad Tracks.”
  10. When combining four postage stamp patterns on a bingo card, you end up with the “Clover Leaf.”

Well I only got one correct answer, but that was because I just decided to answer the one question that I really know the answer, Some of my friends actually researched some of the answers on the internet.

I am definitely a Bingo novice. The only correct answers I got here are number 1 and 3.

Wow, there's a lot about this game that I didn't know! Looks like I'm just an adept for now. Does anyone have any good resources where I can learn about where bingo comes from? This quiz has definitely piqued my interest.

I never realized how slow I am with Bingo history till I tried this test. My answer to number 1 was France. Oh well, at least I now know.

Rats! My answer to number 2 was during the 40's. At least that was what my gran told me about the first time Bingo became popular.
